How to Wear Winter Whites

Hey y’all!

I just want to start this one off with a shoutout to my sweet hubby who is most likely reading this from Germany right now. I miss you. Also, I’d like to brag on his photog skills here. These photos are by far my favorite that he’s taken for the blog. Don’t know what I’m going to do without you for four months, babe.

But forreal, I miss that one like crazy and it’s only been two days. Dropping him off yesterday morning was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Military life is hard, guys. So feel free to send prayers/words of encouragement this way. Maybe once I get the hang of it, I’ll do a post on how I’m dealing. For now, it’s a lot of praying and a fair amount of tears. So instead, I’m just going to talk to you guys about clothes for a little bit. Particularly how to wear one of my favorite winter time trends: Winter White!

So I know a lot of people (I used to be one of them) are afraid of wearing white during the winter, or after Labor Day for that matter. First of all, this is more like an ivory, not bright white, so it has less of a summer-y feel. Second of all, I’m not much for fashion rule following anyway, so if I’m feeling bright white in the middle of January, I’ll probably wear it.

The secret to creating the perfect winter white outfit, in my opinion, is using lighter colors and avoiding harsh contrast. I like to stick to a light, muted palette like the one I’ve chosen here.  Add a little bit of interest with a light grey shirt under a white cardigan, an ombre scarf, and grey or taupe boots. If you want to add a pattern, I’d go with a grey or taupe stripe. Sticking to a muted palette allover gives the appearance of an effortless, super chic look!

If you aren’t wearing a cardigan, maybe just an oversized sweater and pants, add a muted scarf or a good pair of tan boots to break it up.  If you aren’t into all white head to toe, but are still interested in trying a pair of winter white skinnies, the same rules apply. Light colors; not a lot of contrast. Pair them with a muted light grey/mauve/blush/taupe top and coat. Don’t forget a good pair of tassel earrings and your favorite crossbody bag to finish off your outfit!
