review 1: A formidable second novel to the series, I loved this addition. Not only was I surprised by the twists in the plot (fairies, magic stones, changes in alliances), but there was an intense progression within all of the characters. With such a large cast, it is a tall order to create each with its own unique personality. However, Wells does a great job of fleshing out two-dimensional characters into ones more realistic people, especially Alexander. I have come to love his very human doubts and fears and bravery. Thank you, Wells, for a wonderful journey. I cannot wait to read #3!
review 2: I was interested in finding more about the character, but got more and more upset by the basic concept in this world that the good guys are all industrious and good (their auras
... more proclaimed their goodness), while the enemies are all craven cowardly selfish evil people. The good guys inherit powers from an ancient good wizard, to fight the very evil ancient bad wizard. (Good guys can't take anything from anybody - I don't know how they will pay for the war). Those good people serving the enemy can be easily persuaded to switch sides.Since I live in a world where Righteous people on all sides are creating most of the evil that is done, I find this too disturbing to continue. less
