review 1: Dinosaur Kisses, written and illustrated by David Stein, is a silly interactive story about a newborn baby dinosaur named Dina. When Dina hatches out of her egg, she begins to explore the world. With so much to see and do, she tries a STOMP! and a CHOMP! Shortly afterwards, Dina sees two creatures kissing and wants to try it out. Running around looking for someone to kiss, she finds a prehistoric creature and attempts a kiss. Instead, Dina the dinosaur ends up doing a WHOMP! After a few accidental attempts, she discovers that she must pucker her lips in order to kiss. Throughout the story, her efforts fail in funny ways until she finds the right creature to kiss. Even then, it is not a pleasant result! This story book is engaging for children of all ages with quite the cha... moreracter of a dinosaur. With great cover appeal, it is full of bright colors and has a love-crazed Tyrannosaurus rex sprinting across a field towards a desirable place (or someone?) Stein’s wonderful use of fun onomatopoeia in gigantic, bold capital letters helps children sure want to STOMP! and CHOMP! and WHOMP! all throughout the story. The crayon/watercolor illustrations add a quirky sweetness to the pictures that gives it more humor. While the audience might predict where the story is going, most will be delightfully surprised with its amusing ending. Dinosaur Kisses is a hilarious read, perfect for bedtime giggles or classroom participation.
review 2: Uh. Well. This was recommended as a good preschool storytime read. I think it may take me a few reads before I know what humor to put into it. I mean, it's a funny book, yes. But not in the least what I expected and I'm really not sure how my crowd will take it. I haven't had too many dino lovers of late, so they may not find this as funny. I think it would all depend in my delivery, and I'm not sure how well I'd do with that. less
