review 1: Chicken wants a bedtime story before he goes to bed. Papa agrees on one condition: Chicken doesn't interrupt the story. Papa starts off to read Hansel and Gretel and then Chicken interrupts and ends the story how he thinks it should end so Papa stops reading and reminds him not to interrupt and this is time for him to relax. Chicken promises not to interrupt and they read another book but yet he interrupts again and again. They soon run out of books to read so Papa proposes that Chicken makes up a story so Chicken does and Papa falls asleep during the middle of the story.The pictures don't always take up the whole page and the words are written in the white space. The pictures are very colorful and Papa and Chicken are red which show that they are dynamic characters. Many ... morechildren can relate with their parents telling them goodnight stories and maybe they themselves have interrupted their own stories so they can relate with the story line. The words lead the story and the pictures follow adding a little bit more in depth analysis for new readers.
review 2: I must say the illustrations of this book are phenomenal. I love how the author incorporated other traditional literature books that children would know such as: Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood. This will help children to make text-to-text connections and also predictions. I would implement this story as not only a shared reading, but also as part of my students' independent reading time in class to help them explore more of the text and possibly find more meaning than they did not find during the shared reading. Great story! I hope that all present and future educators look into adding this story in their classroom. less
