review 1: this is the second book of his I tried with much the same result... I didn't finish it. the premise of the tale is all fine and well but he tends to loose me in the chapters that are a circular discussion that doesn't go anywhere. maybe I am too impatient, but I want a book that bumps along at a pretty good pace. this one kept pissing me off so I put it down and may resume it at a later date... maybe
review 2: Out of all of the books by David Gibbins that I have read, this may be the one with the least amount of plot. For a thriller, there really isn't much derring-do or edge-of-your-seat nailbiting action pieces. Much of the book is pure talk - Lots and lots of talk about the ancient city of Troy, Agamemnon, stolen antiquities, Nazis, concentration camps, and
... morelost loves. The ending even felt a bit rushed and anti-climatic. May be this was just an off book for this author whose books I generally enjoy. I didn't dislike this book, but it wasn't up to the level of his previous books. less

Very well written. A journey to ancient Greece and Troy and a very vivid picture of WWII.

A typical David Gibbons story, well researched, well presented and really engrossing.

I really enjoy David Gibbins - as good as or better than Clive Cussler
