review 1: David concentrated on being so "calm" throughout the book it left me frustrated. Having never shown his true feelings during this ordeal did not get his son back any sooner! Allowing visitation rights to the "kidnappers" was just ridiculous, even if they were Sean's grandparents. With that said the book opened my eyes to the world of parental kidnapping which is a very serious problem around the world!
review 2: So heartwrenching and enraging. I couldn't put this one down and finally finished it on my lunch break. I'm still gobsmacked at the audacity and flagrant disregard for law and decency exhibited by the Brazilian government in this case. I'm so glad this book ended with David and Sean being reunited because if it hadn't, I don't know what I would h
... moreave done. Flown to Brazil and kidnapped him back, maybe. That's how incensed the conduct of the kidnappers made me. The egotism and need for control displayed was disgusting. This is a CHILD not a piece of land or furniture.I'm getting angry all over again. There are some truly heart-warming moments here, particularly as the case makes its way further and further up the American political system until David is taking calls from Hilary Clinton and has powerful senators standing shoulder-to-shoulder with him or imposing trade sanctions.I have seen some reviews knocking David for including some of the more show-offy details of his life as a model and yes, it was a little excessive in hindsight, but as I was reading, the name drops didn't even register on my finely-tuned (some might say hypersensitive) Authenticity Meter. I also think that he put in those details to contrast the "ideal" life he had before and how he had truly and willingly given it all up for his family. Given the choice between hanging on a beach with Kathy Ireland or swimming in Michael Bay's pool and playing board games with Sean or tucking him into bed, he'd choose the latter every time, even knowing he could have that glamorous life back at any moment. All in all, a quick, engrossing, enraging, but primarily uplifting read. less

Lots of facts. Taught me how ridiculous foreign relations can be in this world.
