review 1: I loved this book! The plot was complex, well-thought out and with a few things that I didn't see coming. By chapter five I was well invested in the lives of these people and the twists and turns were simply superb. That notwithstanding, the greatest strength of this book was in character development; these people went through things and changed in plausible ways that I enjoyed every second of. I will eagerly devour the next installment!
review 2: I personally did not mind the similarities to our world. I actually thought it improved the story by making it more relatable. I felt a real connection to the characters, and was compelled by their story lines. I was genuinely worried for the characters and hoped for their success.
