review 1: I really don't know that much about David Ignatius, other than from TV as a journalist. I was interested in what kind of fiction a serious journalist would invent. This is an interesting work of fiction. The first half of the story develops slowly and deliberately. The last half of the story unwinds a bit faster, with the last fourth of the story sort of like a run-away roller coaster. The final thread of the fiction that Ignatius unwinds here seems to be that nation states through their Intelligence agencies are capable of deceptions galore. Truth in this world is fleeting or possibly entirely unknown. Nice entertaining read.
review 2: The Increment is a “licensed to kill” branch of the British Secret Service. An Iranian scientist sends out by gmai
... morel information about the program to develop a nuclear weapon. Harry Pappas, in charge of the Iran desk at the CIA wants him out to be interrogated. Turns out that the British have been helping send instruments to the Iranians that are faulty This is a decent spy type book, but not IMHO up to the standard that D Ignatius has with his earlier works. less
