review 1: This book was alright. It didn't seem to get good until about 60% of the way through. There didn't seem to be any discernible plot; it was just about the everyday lives of a select few citizens in a small town in southwest Wisconsin. I did not like the ending at all. It just ended, and it just kind of dropped off. There wasn't even an epilogue. How do we know what happened with their lives? I only read it because it was a free nook book, and because the setting is Wisconsin. I couldn't tell if these characters were real or not. In the author's note, he said these stories took 10 years to tell, and that some characters were more comfortable with his wife Edna. What does he mean by that?
review 2: I read this book because David Rhodes spoke at a luncheo
... moren I was at last week. It took a while to get into this book because the first quarter of it was introducing all the characters. There were a lot of characters that made it difficult to follow. However, I did find myself wanting to learn more about the characters and see what happened to them. The author did a great job weaving everyone's lives together and making the reader think. less
