review 1: I don't get all the negative reviews of this book, I thought it was an amazing statement on societal flaws. Not to mention a wonderful what comes around goes around theme, that people should be Human beings to one another and stop hurting our world and each other for pure personal gain. Plus the last few lines just stunned me, I thought it was practically poetry. I haven't yet read the sequels but I'm excited to do so
review 2: I picked this book out from my library shelves after seeing the cover was somewhat different to every other teenage book cover in the world- it wasn't black. Picked through the blurb- no mentions of vampires or Angels or werewolves. Good so far. It also seemed to have an interesting and intriguing idea and was intrested to see where the
... moreauthor would goWith it. Unfortunately it didn't go in the direction I would have liked. The big main idea that drew me in about children being sold was barely even mentioned. Then there was his big thing about turning 12 and owning yourself but there wasn't really a point to that either, that didn't change marks life he just carried on as normal, admittedly I didn't get very far, at this moment in time I don't have the effort or drive to pursue a book that so far has been boring. I mean I know it's set in history and it's glum and it's the plague but couldn't he spice things up a little. And the incident in the shop was just plain wierd.... The selling of the emotions I was like Really? Your gonna go there it what so far has been a reasonably realistic (if not boring) novel? having only made it to page 67 you may say I didn't give this book a chance, but I really didn't like the telling of this story I found it dull and plain like the whole book was just describing brown. Here's my overall review;Characters- lily and mark were both equally boring and one dimensional characters with backgrounds that were designed to makeYou feel sorry for them... But no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't- 4/10Story- like i said the original idea of the children selling captivated me if this could have been developed and been a more focused part of the story I think maybe it would have interested me more as it stood I didn't enjoy the story (as of page 67) that much.... 6/10Individuality- well setting a children's or teenagers novel in a historical period isn't unheard of but it is rare ( i think) among antsy novels so for that I applaude you- 7/10So yeah, read this book if you think you'd like just don't be under the impression that the selling of children will feature as an idea because it barely does. But dont let my opinions put you off I know that a lot of other people have enjoyed this book and maybe you will too....? less
