John Dies at the End
review 1: This was a much more cohesive narrative than John Dies at the End (because it was written as a novel, not collected periodicals, so not a fault of the author.) The central parts of the story, when the spiders have taken over and infected parts of the town, were honestly frightening at a lot of points, and the idea that the whole plan revolves around alienating one group from the other to pull off the monsters' goals was clever. Better character development for all. Would have been 5 stars but I was annoyed by the literal Deus Ex Machina that wrapped things up at the end.

... morearts, but also genuinely scary (of course I was already terrified of spiders so maybe I'm not the best judge) and with more emotion than the first book. Overall, I'm enjoying the series, I think it's getting better with each book, and I hope there's more to come (and since John's still alive as of the end of this book, I can only assume there will be). less
