review 1: If you're looking for a sweet, somewhat short book to occupy some time, then this is it. Otherwise, don't bother. I liked the characters of French's novel, and I liked the premise of what she tried to convey; however, it seemed like this family was satirically exaggerated to the point where it just wasn't fun, but rather incredible. I picked up this book thinking it would be a funny little spin on the ideal family - that's probably what it was meant to be, but it just lost its charm halfway through when I honestly became a little bit bored by the unbelievably tiresome style the book is written in. (although, kudos to French for figuring out a way to express the different characters in the most obnoxious way possible)

... moreot going to lie, it wasn't particularly substantial... and there weren't any characters I really felt a connection to, it became pretty clear early on that it wasn't really aimed at my demographic. It was kind of like the «Last of the Summer Wine» of books; not a whole lot there for me but completely inoffensive. I'd be interested to see what her next book is like. less
