review 1: 5+ stars. Knowing the original story well, this new version was an absolute hoot!Exactly as the blurb states, Ichabod and Brom are rivals for Katrina’s hand in marriage. However… neither wants the woman out of love or even lust. That’s because Ichabod secretly fantasizes about Brom, and Brom wants no one but Ichabod. The brute and the brainiac crave each other bad! So Brom comes up with a scary plan to chase Ichabod in the dead of night, capture him, and tie him naked to a bed at a hunter’s lodge to have his way with him. But once they’ve had their fill of sex—and OMG, it’s hotter than hot!—what about the future? Ichabod’s still poor and hungry, and he and Brom might still end up unable to be with one another.The writing may be a bit old-fashioned, with l... moreong narratives and descriptions instead of dialogue, but I think that was intentional. The scary mood surely was accomplished right from the start. Ichabod has a nervous disposition while Brom is an apparent barbaric hunter. Yet, those are only their appearances. Underneath their masks their personalities are deep and true.The plot offers a few surprises toward the end, a twist to the tale I liked a lot. It showed that even two mischievous men can be both honorable and greedy. Being hungry due to poverty is a strong motivator but neither man was truly heinous and cruel, and their future plans were cleverly crafted and made sense.So, all in all, a good, strong story with lots of erotic tension and hot sex, a couple of curious plot twists, and a few scary moments to boot. Highly recommended.
review 2: I was not overly crazy about the fisting scene, that is not really one of my kinks. But as a whole I did enjoy this take on that old classic by Washington Irving. I have a soft spot in my heart for m/m books (or eve m/f books) where one of the characters is geeky and the other popular/hot, especially if the popular character is actively chasing the geek. What can I say I must have consumed waaaaay to many '80s teen movies during my formative years. Any way this little story hits the the mark in all of the above. less
