review 1: I love the New Yorker Fiction podcasts and am sad that there's only one new one a month. That's why I was so pleased to find this collection. It includes a nice range of authors and exposed me to variety of worlds. Even though not all of the stories were "awesome", I still really enjoyed it.My ratings:1. Birdsong (Adichie) - 32. The Warm Fuzzies (Adrian) - 23. Second Lives (Alacon) - 24. The Train of Their Departure (Bezmozgis) - 35. The Erkling (Bynum) - 26. The Plot (Ferris) - 37. Here We Aren't, So Quickly (Foer) - 38. An Arranged Marriage (Frudenberger) - 39. The Entire Northern Side Was Covered With Fire (Galchen) - 110. The Young Painters (Krauss) - 311. The Science of Flight (Yiyun) - 212. An Honest Exit (Mengestu) - 413. What You Do Out Here When You're Alone (Meye... morer) - 414. Twins (Morgan) - 315. Blue Water Djinn (Obreht) - 216. Dayward (Packer) - 317. The Dredgeman's Revelation (Russel) - 318. The Kid (Scibona) - 219. Lenny Heart's Enice (Shteyugart) - 220. The Landlord (Tower) - 3
review 2: After being pretty underwhelmed by Granta's list of British authors under 40, I took the unscientific approach of reading this and seeing if it was better. It was. There could be a multitude of reasons behind that, only some of which is related i suspect to the writers being better. Story format choice, the yanks' superior ability in that format, a brilliant editor and chance (the stories from the two writers with the biggest reps - Krauss and Safran Foer - were the clearest duffers) probably help.I really wish the New Yorker did more anthologies, as their story picks are consistently mint. less

Finished this awhile ago. My favorite stories were Nicole Krauss' and Daniel Alarcon's.
