review 1: Another great historical romance from Denise Domning. This one is about Kate a young widow who's father can't marry her off quick enough. There is another family in the county that they have been fueding with for generations. This is Rafe's family. Both families are attending a wedding under truce. Rafe's family think that kidnaping Kate would be a good way to regain property stolen from them years ago. Kate's father sees the oppertunity to get the husband he wants for Kate. In true romeo and juliette fashion Rafe falls for Kate but Kate thinks she loves someone else. There are lots of chances for all sorts of mischief at the wedding and joust. With such a lot of political people there is also the chance of dissaster. good fun I enjoyed it .Now I have to find the follo... morew up.
review 2: When delving into the world of fiction, I need merely consistency and a well told story to lead me to the movie reels of my mind. In that, this story was successful. The hero is of course charming, witty and patient, and while he is not perfect, he is at least honest. The heroine naïve, “almost” innocent and head strong, although this characteristic is developed through the novel. The historical aspect of this story deals more with a woman’s role in society more than any other aspect. Her place as a daughter, a widow, a wife and the variable possibilities given to each station. While a 21st century feminist may be shocked and disgusted by the treatment of the heroine in this story, it is all the more compelling because of the historical perspective provided by the author. less
