review 1: I'm always a little leery of overly adapted stories. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has, counting this one, been adapted three times over the past few years, so I was even more cautious than usual before picking up this graphic adaptation.The art and production values are gorgeous and the story choices (what to use from the novel, what to cut) are well made thoughtfully made. However, the book suffers from the reader already being too familiar with the book. What should be shocking or interesting is just another version of something that I, at least, have already read once and seen twice.I think if I had gotten to this graphic novel before having seen either of the movie adaptations, I would like it quite a bit more. As it is, it's a beautifully made comic, and great ... morefor completists and collectors, but it's a story that is already too-familiar and suffers for that.
review 2: I've been reading lots of graphic novels lately, maybe too many because I really need a break now. That's the last one for a little bit.First of all. I love the artwork. Compared to all the titles I've read lately it's really, really good. I love the way Lisbeth is portrayed; I still can't picture a good Mikael in my mind, though. But neither Daniel Craig nor Michael Nyqkvist resembled the idea of Mikael I had.Anyway. I read the original book so long ago that I don't actually remember all the details. Some say that the graphic novel differs a little bit from the novel but I can't say anything.I'm really looking forward to read vol. 02. less
