review 1: It's a lovely story that I enjoyed. Good supporting female character and it is one of the better coming out of the closet stories that I have read so far. It really makes you think that although we live in a more open world now where being gay isn't any big deal anymore (depending on where you live etc), it still is to the older generation where they have had prejudice inbred into them at an early age and won't be changing their views as they grow older, they are too set in their ways. That also goes into a way of behaving, having lived most of your life hiding who you really are it would be extremely difficult to go about changing that and embracing who you are. This story touches on these things and shows that with love and support all things are possible and makes thing... mores that seem extremely scary less so when you have a shoulder to lean on.
review 2: So I really liked the pacing and the characters of this story. Caleb and Ian don't just "fall" together. Sure Caleb is attracted to Ian, but given the circumstances of their meeting, he doesn't want to cause the guy any more difficulty - and he's not even sure he's gay. The patience and caring that Caleb shows for Ian and Terra is just so nice to see. Ian puts his niece as his first priority - and he'd never put his own desires ahead of her happiness. Somewhere along the way though, he realizes that just maybe he can be happy too and that maybe he deserves more out of life than just existing. I also enjoyed watching Ian become more comfortable with who he is and standing up for himself. Aaron and Terra are comfortable with their uncles and there is no reason why the rest of the family shouldn't be as well. Caleb's family is fine with them and Ian soon relaxes into the crowd. Of course Ian's idiot neighbor has to be the fly in the ointment, but lucky he doesn't seem to hold much sway over anyone. He's a little out of touch with reality and I loved that he got taken out by a teenage girl! less
