review 1: Was excited about a historical Egypt and was disappointed. There was very little historical fact. I think it is a fine line between fantasy and history. I realize the Author stated in the back of the book that it was not a work of history. Maybe that should be moved to the front of the book so there is no confusion. Over 50 percent of the sentences were around a paragraph long which caused me to go back time and time again to remember what it said. If you can't say a sentence in one breath then it is too long. I stumble through and finished and was not satisfied nor did I want to read other novels by the Author. The basic story is okay but could be better. An upstanding and honest man fights grave-robbers but most of his time was contemplating the gods. With much editing, it... more could be better.
review 2: This book spoke to me about life and courage. The hero is a man who has decided to do what needs to be done even though it may cost him everything. I found this an evocative book, with many wonderful moments. Ultimately I was both sad and elated. This may not be a book for everyone: there are times when the next world and this touch. This moves the plot along but ultimately it is the hero himself that takes the steps to stop the evil. While the course of action does come at great personal cost, he also gains strength, hope and a better understanding. less
