review 1: Maybe it is because I have read so many of the previous books in this series, but it didn't seem quite as good--almost as if the author is trying too hard. The character Holly, who dies, is spoken of in glowing terms at first--she, Marla, and Goldie supposedly having so much in common, but later they seem to badmouth her, Arch is getting older, of course, and doesn't appear to be quite so interesting. Marla is the character who stays the same--outrageous. Still, it is a good read.
review 2: I used to enjoy this series, especially the time spent with Goldie in the kitchen where she always had the freshest and finest quality ingredients magically available and enough espresso to keep her busy around the clock. The espresso machine is still working, but Goldi
... moree did very little cooking in this latest installment. She has handed the reins over to Julian who is perhaps a better cook and also doesn't try to do it all while solving every murder case in town. The current dilemma is unrealistic and riddled with tedium and repetition. The resolution is more relief than revelation. You might as well skip the book and read the epilogue. less
