review 1: Sonically beautiful and clever, but so vague. The morass of unattributed pronouns wouldn't be so bad if VSIAB were like Bolaño's "Antwerp," where the story is simple, but the narrators change all over the place in this book. I ended up separating myself from the larger story and just enjoyed the chapters as singular pieces, but I would have enjoyed more connectivity. There is enough entropy in my life as is.
review 2: Simultaneously the most beautiful and least readable book you will pick up all year. I'm going to assume the only reason anyone thinks this is poignant is that it comes in 1-2 page bursts. Apparently Williams writes longer-form works as well and I shudder to think about approaching that ocean of unattributed pronouns. Please consider ripping the
... morecover off this book and framing it, or maybe making the book into one of those secret hiding places for a spare car-key, chocolate bar or cigarette. Don't bother reading it. One of the rare disappointments from McSwnys (other than every Dave Eggers novel ever). #ohnohedidnt less

One of the weirdest books of short stories I have ever read. I really enjoyed it. Super quick read.

Maybe it's me...but WTF are these stories? The avant garde is so frustrating.
