review 1: The description of this book on the back cover was very enticing. I checked this book out at the library last evening and finished it when I got home from work today. It's about a young man who seemingly has everything going for him: beautiful wife, healthy son, dream job... but as the book begins, you realize right away that there's something terribly wrong. I'm not going to go into the great detail of the plot. I feel like that gives too much of the book away. I will say that it was deeply disturbing and sad and I questioned the lack of action on the mother's part over and over again. The story did draw me in immediately and it was definitely a book I couldn't put down, but it left me hurting for the main fictional character even at the end. I had the book figured out... more early on, but that didn't take away it. All in all, I gave it a high rating because it was able to keep me interested. However, it is not a "warm & fuzzy" book, which is generally what I like. The author did an amazing job of making me feel like I was there. I could have done without some of the cursing though. Good book - I'd recommend it.
review 2: I was fortunate enough to find this book at a dollar store and thought "Why not?" Unfortunately, I read it all in one day. There is a lot of truth to the lies in this book. The author, Kristin Hannah, is amazingly insightful and highlights the illusions we hold to and how we only hold a splinter of the whole picture. I did not see the last little revelation coming. Truly one can find a treasure at the dollar store and this book did not deserve to be there. I highly recommend this book as a book club read; there are even discussion questions at the end. less
