review 1: Even though there are some brief mentions of what happened in the book 2033, there is no real continuation between this and the previous book. One expected to continue with the adventures of Artyom and find out what happened to the Dark Ones, at least that was hinted by the Comic Book "Metro Last Light: The Gospel According to Artyom. Similar to the Ender's Universe from "Ender's Game" I expected the Dark Ones to survive and come back to life to help humanity rebuild their destroyed world, but there was nothing of that. All through the book I was expecting Artyom to appear, and when he finally appeared he has the most pointless role in the novel and at the end just disappears with everybody else. The main characters appear and then die without much purpose. There is not rea... morelly a direction where this utopian future is really going. I was really disappointed with this book. I heard there will be a Metro 2035. It would be nice if it had that continuation of Artyom's story and not that is just another random and pointless adventure from another random bunch of characters.
review 2: Recently finished Metro 2034, and rarely have I been this disappointed with a book. I find it almost hard to believe an author can be THAT much of a blowhard super-patriarchical misogynist asshole, and completely disguise it throughout an entire book (Metro 2033). So disgusted with the sequel I had a hard time finishing it, and I can completely understand why it took ages to be translated into English - it just stinks. Yikes! less
