These days, when they are not performing music, they are studying music.
Members of Long Time Coming are not only selling a new album and performing wherever they can in the area, the Long triplets are freshmen studying at the Delta Music Institute (DMI) at Delta State University.
“We are excited to have the Long brothers in our entertainment industry studies program here at Delta State,” said Tricia Walker, director of the DMI program at Delta State University. “We believe that through our unique degree program we can provide them with the resources and knowledge to make a strong start towards developing a professional career in the entertainment industry.”
Logan Long is specializing in audio engineering, while Christian Long and Embry Long are focusing on music entrepreneurship –the business side of the music business. DMI is an innovative degree program combining technology, business and creative coursework specific to the music and entertainment industry at Delta State University. The program encourages students to think “outside the box” in an entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary way as they plan for their future after college.
“Right now, we just want to get out there,” said Christian Long. “We want to continue to put our name out there as new country artists.”
They are the identical triplet sons of Russell and Angel Long of Eupora; and the grandsons of Leon and Emmy Long of Eupora and Lloyd and the late Pamela Chism of Duck Hill.
Long Time Coming has been building their fan base for several years as they developed their musical skills. Christian plays harmonica and bass, Embry plays drums and mandolin, and Logan plays lead and rhythm guitar. They perform regularly as part of the praise band at First United Methodist Church of Eupora, and at different venues throughout the area. When they are not leading worship at Eupora First UMC, they can be found leading worship at Vacation Bible School, Children’s Summer Camp, Youth Camps, gospel nights, youth nights, and Fifth Sunday Singings. They have performed at the Bogue Creek Festival in Duck Hill for many years. They love performing at festivals and other family-fun venues.
Peggy Clanton has known “the boys” all of their lives and knows the hard road it has been for them to attain the level of popularity and musical integrity they are currently enjoying.
“They are very sweet, talented young men,” Clanton said. “They have worked very hard to get to this place with their music. They have a lot of God-given talent and do not mind using it to sing some of the old Christian songs as well as the country bluegrass, which has caught back on due to performers like Long Time Coming. They are very comfortable with their performances and it shows. Their abilities probably go much deeper than we imagine and in time and maturity, I hope that their names will become very familiar to the rest of the country.”
Carolyn Womack said she loves their unique look and sound.
“Their instruments sound awesome — the harmonica sound is so great; along with guitars and mandolin,” Womack said. “Each of the triplets plays at least two instruments. They are super talented and the country/ bluegrass sound just takes me away! Old sound but they make it new! Get their new CD it is great! You can’t find better looking or well- mannered Christian young men anywhere!”
Becky Oliver said “I love their music because when I listen to them sing, I can tell that they love it also.”
One of their former music teachers, Amy Stephens, said the sound is unique because musically talented relatives make great harmony.
“Familial harmony is much better than random harmony, so their singing and harmony is really outstanding!” said Stephens.
Long Time Coming currently has an EP on iTunes titled LONG TIME COMING EST. 2016. On the extended play or “mini-album,” some of the songs co-written by the Longs include “Mississippi Life” and “City Lights.”
From all accounts, EP sells are going great. While most new artists tend to have dismal numbers for their first EP, Long Time Coming’s EP is performing above average. And while most sells have come from their strong local support, it has been fun to see EP sells in the Netherlands, Mexico, the United Kingdom and France.
The EP can be purchased on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music and Spotify. The CD’s are also available at Supervalu in Eupora and Hammond’s Pharmacy in Winona for $5.
