A Jack Hawthorne Adventure
review 1: Archaeologist Jack Hawthorne has given up on his chosen profession ever since the death of his brother. Preferring instead to spend his days teaching, Jack has settled into a quiet life in the States. All that changes with the arrival of Gordon Reese in Jack's life. Gordon has a job for Jack: Find Elisha's Bones. Rumored to restore life to the dead, the dying millionaire will spare no expense to find them.Abd so begins Jack's quest. Little did he know the danger that would await him, or the old wounds he would be opening.Elisha's Bones is a thrilling adventure, full of ancient stories and modern day thrills. Although the book is in the middle of a series, I never would have known it by reading it. It's well written and full of excitement, as well as being a self-contain... moreed story.
review 2: Loved this "Jack Hawthorne Adventure." Dr. Jack Hawthorne, experienced archaeologist, presently professor of archaeology, is hired by a multi-billionaire to find and return the bones of Elisha the prophet. These bones are purportedly able to bring people back from the dead, based on the biblical story in II Kings 13:21. Jack and his former fiancé, Esperanza, travel around the world searching for the bones and the secret society that has protected them through the centuries. They meet with frequent disasters and dangers, leaving chaos in their wake and wondering if it's all worth it. Hoesel very effectively pulls off present tense, which makes the story much more immediate. The characterization is excellent, the settings colorful and fascinating, the plot twisting and turning, and the theme ringing in our ears. I especially like Jack's sarcastic humor, which helps to lighten the tone when the seriousness of the situation threatens to overwhelm. less
