review 1: This book was fantastic. This book was about these two boys named Duffy, and sumo, they vist there uant. But after they vist there uant they go in a crazy adventure. They go into a volcano, they will go deeper and deeper into the bowles of an erupting valocano. Nothing, would stop them they will question themselves find answers. Will they make it out alive? The book was fantastic. This book had really surprising part like when the skeletons guy came, and scared sumo. That, was really good. The expulsions were sureprising as well, when the bout exploded and the death of Kaleo it great. Well, the book really had a lot of surprises parts and it lasted in till the book ended.
review 2: Genre: Junior Graphic NovelSummary: This book tells the story of Sumo and Duf... morefy Pugg, who are removed from class by their father and told that they must go on an adventure to their absent mothers home island. They must go with their large cousin named Come-and-Go to visit their aunt. They are eventually asked to enter a volcano and the drama ensues. Sumo is scared but when faced with his brother Duffy being in danger, summons the courage to do things he thought were impossible. Critique:(a) The book is accurate in its details of adventure and the terrain in which they encounter on the island. The images of the volcano are wonderful and realistic as well. (b) The story is adventurous and keeps you intrigued throughout the book. The most impressive part of the book however has to be the illustrations and the wonderful color that is presented throughout the book. The only weakness of the book is that you do not learn everything that you want to know at the book’s end.(c) The vivid reds and oranges used when the volcano is presented are amazing and give a lot to the story in the way of vividness and reality. As for weaknesses, you never learn why their father forced them to go on this journey, which I truly hoped would be revealed by books end.Curriculum Connection:This book would be a wonderful tool to use when presenting a literary unit about graphic novels or a fun element to a science lesson about volcanoes. less
