review 1: Disclaimer: I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads Giveaways.I read through half this book and couldn't finish. The writing shows potential, but that was not enough to overshadow everything else that was lacking. I would be more forgiving if I had received an ARC, but this book has been out for awhile now, and the advice I have for the author is: fire your editor! I'm sad too, because this story could've been great, but when you have to slog through poor punctuation, pretty awful sentence structuring, and blatant misspellings, it's really hard to get into a story. Things like "he shuttered at the though of..." "one would never mistaken a strike dextoid..." "even the most harden structures on Earth..." I could give more examples, but you get the idea. I... more really don't think most of the problems are the author's as much as whoever edited the book. You can tell this was a first time novel, and I really hope the author will keep writing, as there really is potential here. But seriously, get a new editor.
review 2: Disclaimer: I won this book as a First Reads giveaway. The story is pretty good, but the author spends a lot of time on tangents in the middle of conversations. For example, a bounty hunter interrupts the main character in a board meeting. The author spends two pages with the character thinking about the bounty hunter and how & why this interruption was "inexcusable" before responding. The Dextoids are characterized well. One of them even writes poetry. (Not good poetry, but who picks up sci-fi for poetry?)For a first time author, I am bumping this up to four stars. I hope that the experience will inform his next book, and it will deserve the high rating. ;-) less

I loved it. the style very reminiscent of Ray Bradbury, or Phillip K Dick. can't wait for more.

Didn't finish. Some elements I loved and the rest just frustrated me. Just not a style I like.
