review 1: Sara Graves is still struggling to come to terms with the death of her new husband, when an invitation arrives for her to go to France to settle her husband’s estate. Daniel was a talented poet, but she never realized he was also part owner of a 400-year-old crumbling castle in the beautiful Loire Valley!Sara is intrigued by the secrets of Chateau Rondelais. Its immense polished marble halls and magnificent chandeliers hide the tarnished silver ornamentation and faded wallpaper well. The gardens’ numerous statues are almost devoured by a tsunami of undergrowth and the fountains have certainly seen better days. Nonetheless, her bedroom is worthy of a princess. How can she maintain such an opulent structure? How can Sara afford to keep it, much less restore the hom... moree to its original splendor?Ash Lindewan was Daniel’s good friend. His arrival is especially prophetic and life changing. Although Sara is initially attracted to Ash, his plans to make the chateau pay for itself disturb her. Suddenly, she is losing control. Add to that the unexpected arrival of Daniel’s daughter, Alyssa, and Sara is stressed beyond belief. What started out as a beautiful fairy tale come true suddenly takes on the aspects of a nightmare. Still, Sara tries to maintain her belief in a happy ending. Will her fervent wish come true?
review 2: I enjoyed this book but....not as much as the Ladybug Farm series. It did have some depth and interesting, engaging characters. It was wonderful to imagine a once great castle and the chance to restore it to its former splendor. I would have enjoyed it more had there been more depth to this portion of the book. However, there were charming moments; the instant bond between Sara and Alyssa, the love between the two sisters, Ash's mother Katherine was a delight, and even the efficient Mrs. Harrison brought me a smile.I am trying to pinpoint exactly why this book fell a little flat for me and the only reason I can come up with is trying to imagine how a woman so recently widowed who was portrayed as being madly in love with her husband could so suddenly fall for another man. All in all, this was a light, fun read and I will say, pay attention to Ash's dream in the beginning of the book! I had to go back and re-read that part! less
