review 1: This book has been on my goodreads recommended list for awhile, so I finally decided I would give it a shot. When I picked up the book I was thrilled to see praise from two of my favourite authors (Lauren Willig and Simone St. James). Took me awhile to become engaged in the book, but once I was I totally did not want to put it down. Great job for a first book. Now I will be on the lookout for this authors second book.
review 2: This book is not at all what I expected, and I actually found parts of it distasteful. I don't like reading about sex used as a weapon or manipulative tool, even when story lines have "love" growing out of it. I also didn't find Kate/Lydia's character convincing; a girl raised a strict Quaker does not change so quickly and thorough... morely without being heavily conflicted. I didn't' bother to finish the book. less
