review 1: Darya was a very interesting character. I'm not so sure what to say about the rest of the book I mean I liked it. Obviously any portrayal of Rasputin still scares the crap out of me and the mention of his corpse being burnt and seemingly coming back to life gives me mental nightmares. The history of the Romanovs is always so fascinating and depressing at the same time you always have that glimmer of hope that Alexei and Ananstasia could have survived and you read about fantasies where they have but you know in reality it just didn't happen. But you wish it did.

This gift was what brought her to the court of the Romanov's and in c... moreare of Alexei. Her story spans the beauty and horror of the Romanov's reign. Beautifully written, it captures you and lets you experience it all through Darya's eyes. Her love for the Romanov family and her love for the painter that enters her life through the court's art society. Her struggle with an inner voice that both guides and torments her. Her struggle with Rasputin as he enters the palace and heals her beloved Alexei, but disrupts and misuses his position. Her continued search for the tsarovich so the Romanovs can be rulers once again. less
