review 1: I have always been interested in the premise of this story - actual history taking place surrounding the Tsar and his family. The magical element was frustrating at times as it was difficult to grasp. I thought that the ending was very sad in regards to Avram and Darya. Of course, this story is a sad story before we've even begun but it had very little joy and hope in it overall. Very sad times. It did grow my vocabulary though! I am left somewhat melancholy today after finishing it.
review 2: This is a book I never would have found were it not for the free book Fridays for the Nook. I think it was well written and it really peaked my interest in the history of Russia at that time. I often would switch to Wikipedia to research and I found the way the author
... more wove real history with fantasy to be sort of enchanting. I will say that somewhere in the middle to end of the book I lost my focus/interest I still found the story to be interesting and the main character to be compelling, it is a book I'm very glad I stumbled across, so thank you for that Barnes and Nobel. less

So painfully bad I cannot write a sufficiently bad review. Don't waste your time.
