review 1: Dora Levy Mossanen has a poetic writing style and a good story to tell. However, I found myself holding out for the connections - butterflies, the Corpse Plant, the owl, the photographs. There had to be some symbol or metaphor in there somewhere - some relationship to the friends and family of whom she wrote.I was angry at most of the characters and to be honest felt the servants were poorly developed. I don't regret the time I took to read this book. It certainly has merit and value to its readers. I just wish it had been less "cluttered".
review 2: I was granted this book to read by SOURCEBOOKS Landmark via Net GalleyI thought the author wrote a good story, there was nothing wrong with the writing style, however, it was very dark. The characters in this ... morestory were very deep and off putting. They are not anyone soon I would invite into my front room! Soraya is very nasty, very deep, very conniving, and oh so awful. I suppose the author did shake us up a bit!If you are looking for a light read, this isn't it.If you want something that makes you think how on earth does this person mind think......then get it.For me, it was quite disturbing. less
