My Top 5 Books Read In 2017

Well, 2017 was a rollercoaster that started in the deepest pits of hell, and has gradually maneuvered into a much more scenic route filled with optimism (thank you Universe, God, and Goddess!). So it wasn’t a surprise to me when I logged onto Goodreads and saw that I had only read 37 books of 100 for my reading challenge. New resolution: read 100 books in 2018.

Now, of course, some of these books are not new, but I read these all for the first time. Here are my top 5 favorite reads of 2017:

5. Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates

This book is inspired by the gruesome murders by Jefferey Dahmer. Oates totally becomes invisible and we believe this narrator who is writing in his diary. This person has their own writing and twisted thoughts. A story well done. Not for the squeamish, but I highly recommend.

4. Tales From The Dark Side (Scripts) by Joe Hill

When I first heard the news that Tales From The Dark Side was shooting a pilot episode I was thrilled! When it for canceled I was extremely sad. After reading the scripts I became angry because it had so much potential to be something so great. Joe Hill is a brilliant writer and it truely shows in this would-be reboot of Tales From The Dark Side.

3. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

This book is truely unsettling, disturbing, and scary. I need to rewatch the movie, but the book is excellent.

2. Different Seasons by Stephen King

These stories truly touched my soul, made me reminisce (Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Body), while others disturbed me (Apt Pupil, The Breathing Method). Excellent writing and story telling by the King. Each story is amazing.

1. 11/22/63 by Stephen King

I first watched the Hulu series with James Franco and loved it. I truly enjoyed the series. I read the book and also loved it. The two are different in many ways, but I love them both. One of the best parts for me was when Derry is mentioned, as well as Pennywise. And we run into two old friends: Richie Tozier and Bev Marsh. Aside from all of that, the main character, Jake Epping, is one of my favorite characters ever.

Which books did you read this year? What’s your top 5? Comment!
