review 1: Most of the Dorothy Garlock books I've read are set in the 1930s and 1940s and take place in small towns and farmland in the Depression, just before WWII, during the war or just after.These are not sweet romances. They are gritty romances, but always a love story. Much tension and conflict and violence.In this story, during WWII, a German family escaped Hitler's Germany and moved to America where they have always been accepted--till now. Someone is trying to harm them and keep the lovers apart. Its a good story, just gritty.

... moreage was a fear and the book deals with a couple of men who take that too far. While the undertone of the whole book is definitely very serious it also has a typical cute-sy romance that helps move the plot along and alleviate the stinging impact of the reality this book holds. less

I always look forward to every book that Dorothy puts out. But I was quite disappointed in this one.
