Review~ The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke

Goodreads Synopsis

Ananna of the Tanarau abandons ship when her parents try to marry her off to another pirate clan. But that only prompts the scorned clan to send an assassin after her. When Ananna faces him down one night, armed with magic she doesn’t really know how to use, she accidentally activates a curse binding them together.

I have heard about this book from quite a few people, some enjoyed the book and others have mixed feeling about it. The basic storyline is about a female pirate a male assassin trying to find a cure to get rid of a curse that cause them to be stuck together. That has got me interested, and while reading it I did enjoy it, however there were one or two flaws about this book.

First off, I love both pirates and assassins and it is quite rare to have these two professions together in the same world, and to have them stuck together gives an entertaining read. There were a great deal of action on there never ending adventure that becomes hooking, along with fighting and turmoil the author also manages to understand their characters by having them tell stories to one another. What I love about Ananna and Naji is them being polar opposites, Naji a cool, collected assassin that knows blood magic and Ananna, a brash, hot headed pirate that prefers to fight in combat. With the unfortunate circumstance of a curse, they learn to understand each other and see each other more than just a pirate and an assassin.

The book started a bit too slow for my liking, but once Naji and Ananna met, it manages to pick itself up. The world was a little confusing, there were some parts where Ananna at the beginning somehow managed to go from one place to another without any flow, but again it managed to pick itself up through the process of the story.

Despite these little flaws, it was an enjoyable book and I will read the second book, The Pirates Wish, in the near future. I will recommend this to people who likes any magic, fighting, action and adventure, along with a little unrequinted love.

Overall I rate it 4/5.
