review 1: I've watched most of the "I am Second" videos, and found them to be very personal, deep accounts. Each one was touching and profound in its own way. It seems that an attempt was made to capture those same feelings in this book, however it just seemed to be lacking somehow.The stories are good - don't get me wrong. Each one just lacks the power or personality that the videos have.I think what made me feel this way was the way the book is written. Rather than each person telling their own story, there's a strange back-and-forth between the subjects and the narrator. It doesn't really flow, and often I found myself having to go back and read over a paragraph to make sure I was reading it from the right perspective (either the narrator's or the subject's).All in all, it's not ... morea bad book. It's a nice addition to the videos, and some folks will likely enjoy it. I just think it would have been better to hear each person tell their own story without the extra "dressing up."
review 2: I was never a real huge church goer, and I believed in God and Jesus and what they did, but never truly understood. This book is full of incredible and sensational stories tied into one fantastic ending about people who have hit rock bottom, but never stayed. If you have ever hit bottom, you know it is not easy to bounce back. This wonderful book explains how to discover the life changing power in putting God first and proclaiming "I am Second." It is important to understand not to rely on self or substance but to lean on the only completely reliable source of love, hope, and freedom: the Good who created them. Shocking in their honesty, inspiring in their courage, these testimonies are critical reminders that no one is too far from God to find him. less
