review 1: On the whole, I enjoyed this book. As a female reader, I especially appreciate the revamp of Black Canary's look and I love the relationship between Black Canary and Starling. All around a good solid book with some action and enough backstory that you know what is going on (even if you're new to the Birds). I think my only criticism would be that even if the art is good (it is very plain though), I think Gotham looks really happy-go-lucky and lively, and it might just be that I'm of the Burton generation, but it just doesn't seem right to me. It doesn't feel like Gotham to me.
review 2: As has become apparent with New 52 titles, they pretty much fuck up introducing new characters and any background information, often leaving the reader feeling confused or like
... morethey are missing some vital piece of information. Its a shame cos despite the fact that the old Birds of Prey had an awesome lineup that included Lady Blackhawke, Huntress, Black Canary and Hawk and Dove , as well as Barbara Gordon still wheel-chair bound and known as Oracle, the new characters Starling and Katana are incredibly interesting and pretty badass. Katana especially captured my attention (its also nice to see a bit of diversity up in this shit, including a bisexual character). The weak link is probably Poison Ivy, shes a bit out of place. And I cant say Im a big fan of her new look, and while I really appreciate the new modesty in BC, the shoulder pads/armour thing is a bit weird. Also, Barbara is walking again and running around as Batgirl. Since New 52 love crossovers so damn much, Im guessing this is explained in the Batgirl comics, but never actually explained to the reader here ,so once again, left in the dark here! There is potential, so Ill be following the series to see where it goes. less

This is a book full of action, a lot of suspense and some great art to top it all off.

3.5 stars. Wish I could read volume 2 but my library doesn't have a copy.
