review 1: Absolutely loved this! Fast-paced, inventive plot, strong and humorous narrative voice, characters that leap off the page and impale you with mic stands. What more can you ask of a modern, snappy noir set in LA-LA Land? Sure, it's absurd, but that's part of the fun. And any writer who can set the first half of their book in one place (in this case, an "upside-down" house in the Hollywood hills) and still keep me flipping pages like a mad woman to find out what happens next, is a writer who knows a thing or seven about crafting tension and suspense. I must also mention that the cover designs for all three books in this series are stunning; they set the tone while also throwin' it back to the old school pulp covers of by-gone days. Good stuff, all ar... moreound.
review 2: Too much gratuitous use of the F-word for my liking - crude language is a big turn-off for me -- totally unnecessary in a good story. If it wasn't for the language, I would have marked that I liked it. The story keeps you engrossed -- fast paced. A lot of coincidences have to be accepted. I do like that the story at least acknowledges the role (however minor) that questions of faith play in many (most?) Americans' lives. Crude language less
