review 1: Even by Duane Swierczynski standards, the Charlie Hardie books are ridiculous. They push the upper limits of credulity and the lower limits of literary acceptability. Definitely a guilty pleasure, and one that I've enjoyed in the past. But with Point and Shoot, I felt like most of the pleasure was gone, and I was just left with the guilt. Throughout the first half of the book, I toyed with quitting. By the second half, I was reasonably engaged but it couldn't make up for my overall disappointment. Kudos to Swierczynski, however, for a decent ending. My advice: if you want a good guilty pleasure, read The Wheelman, Severance Package and maybe The Blonde, but skip the Charlie Hardie series...
review 2: This latest entry in the Charlie Hardie series does no
... moret disappoint. It's the usual crazed roller coaster ride of violence and mayhem, all in good fun, that marked the first two entries in the series. In this avowed last book in the series we learn the ultimate fate of Charlie "The Man Who Can't Die" Hardie. Swierczynski is a master. His method is to push everything - literally everything - to the extreme and beyond, farther than the reader could ever imagine, and not only to invoke the extreme but to document it, second by second, in excruciating detail. The result, in the tradition of David Goodis and other classic writers, manages to go so far over the top that it becomes, in spite of itself, an existential noir vision of life on earth. For some odd reason, highly enjoyable! less

A great finish to the Charlie Hardie trilogy. Loved how it went to places I didn't expect.
