review 1: Parts of this book were really interesting, especially the last few chapters. And there were some cool stories scattered throughout the book. But the book's central insight--that many of our explanations of complex phenomena are simply descriptions with no explanatory power, and that just may be the best we can do--isn't that earth-shattering and could have been established in fewer pages, or with more cool stories, or both.
review 2: this is a fascinating book written by an observant, thinking person. well done. he takes on the concept of common sense not in how uncommon it is but rather how often we use it yet miss so many additional aspects of human nature and situations that the using of common sense turns out not to be that helpful. we need to "see" more .
... more.. hence: once you know the answer, everything is obvious. each chapter details how else to "see" situations and predicaments so that our common sense applications can be more finely honed and less mere reflections of our deeply engrained bias. this method has got to be better than the blind-mole style we are currently using. imo. well worth investing the time to read this informative and insightful book. less
