review 1: We're discussing this volume of Hip Hop Family Tree on the podcast for this coming week. This one didn't strike me the same way the first volume did, but it's really good and gives (I guess) a nice general overview of hip hop between 1981 and 1983. I say "I guess" because I'm really ignorant of hip hop, so I wouldn't really know what Piskor may be overlooking, deemphasizing, highlighting, etc. This brings up Hip Hop Family Tree and the subject of audience assumptions...a topic I considered when reading the first book.
