The Patrick Melrose Novels

review 1: The third in the Melrose series is better than the second but not quite as perfect as the first. Patrick attends an early 90s aristocratic country party populated with more of the absolutely awful characters St Aubyn writes about so well. Very funny in parts though Patrick's endless self-examination can become wearying at times. The first novel I have read to feature Princess Margaret as a character-she would not have been pleased with her portrayal. I look forward to reading Melrose 4.

In Patrick Melrose möchte man sich hineinlegen und mit ihm eine Lösung suchen, wie man diese Welt und ihre ganzen hassenswerten Menschen, sich selbst inbegriffen, ertragen soll. Leider gewinnt die Kulisse der Gartenparty im Rom... morean die Oberhand über Patricks Innenschau, so dass die wirklich guten Stellen an drei Fingern abzählbar sind. Dass diese drei Stellen reichen, um den Roman trotzdem ins Herz zu schließen, spricht für sich. less
