review 1: I wanted to like this book. I really, really wanted to like this book because heaven knows we need more books about queer girls. However, I found myself unable to get past the choppy writing and the underdeveloped characters that weigh this book down. Most of the book is written in short, jerky sentences, which completely disrupted the flow of the story and made it hard to connect. The characters were also a severe letdown in terms of depth and development, as we never really got to see why they did all the ridiculous things that they did (speaking of ridiculous, did the author seriously decide to name the protagonist's love interest KC Romance? Really??? REALLY????) While it's great that the plot condemns body shaming and didn't entirely revolve around Angie's sexuality, ... morein the end these two bright spots can't make up for the overwhelming flaws in Fat Angie.
review 2: Please note this is simply a review of the audio book only, I may pick up the written version in the future, but it may have been ruined for me by the audio book narrator. I could not listen to this narrator for more than one disc, and that was a stretch. I am in my car a lot so listen to audio books every day, and rarely have issues with narration. This was the worst I have ever heard. This narrator had a robotic voice and an inability to control her volume, such that it was unbearable to listen to. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend this audio book to anyone. less
