review 1: Excellent collection of nonfiction essays about singing, shouting, acting, and crows. Vocalization runs through all the pieces and the whole, which is larger than its parts, leaves the reader with a contemplative and thoughtful view of something as basic to existence as vocalizing. Passarello writes from thorough research, but infuses her work with lyrical and fluid prose, making each piece a delightful adventure in the topic it explores.
