review 1: Book #2 in the Star Harbor SeriesTheo Grayson comes back to Star Harbor to work on his next book, but he can't get his mojo working while staying on his brother's houseboat, so he checks into the local inn where he meets Avery Newbridge and is instantly attracted to her.Avery is staying in Star Harbor helping her aunt with the Inn while her aunt is fighting cancer and working on trying to decided what to do with her career after losing one of her clients to addiction. She doesn't want to trust Theo, believing that he'll leave to return to San Francisco when he's done with his book, taking her heart with him.I would have enjoyed this book much more, but Avery was such a twit. Theo did everything he could to pretty much prove he had what it took to be the guy she could depe... morend on & she kept pushing him away even when she was giving mixed signals. He did everything but come right out & tell her "I love you & want to be with you forever." & she still kept pushing him away. So that took away from my enjoyment.
review 2: Autumn Heat (Book 1) first if you can. They can definitely be read stand-alone, but as the series is about 4 brothers you can imagine there is a lot of crossover. Theo has returned to Star Harbour to try and kick start himself back into action. A well respected author, who has spent the past few years in San Francisco, he has found himself at a crossroads and struggling to find inspiration for his writing. Staying on his brothers houseboat and having to share a cramped cabin with his older brother Cole isn't helping matters much. So as suggested by his friend Emma, he decides to move into the Inn to give himself some breathing space. There he meets Avery Newbridge (Emma's sister) and their connection is instant. Avery is in Star Harbour herself dealing with a traumatic event from her past, and looking to decide where she wants her future to take her. She doesn't believe that Theo has a place in her life as it is, and is scared that as soon as he gets his inspiration for writing back, he will skip town to head back to the big city, leaving her to put herself back together again. I enjoyed this book as much as DAH, however I will say I didn't connect with Avery as much as I did with Lexxie from DAH. I could see the emotional turmoil Avery was going through, but sometimes I literally wanted to give her a shake and tell her to stop being such a Martyr. Yes she does pull herself together, but as someone who is a social worker, it seemed that she struggled to think rationally about her relationship with Theo, bordering on childish on a couple of occasions. She did eventually "take stock" and realise what an idiot she was being, but at points I found myself rolling my eyes. So Spring is just round the corner, I cannot wait too see what Cole's story has in store for us. ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for the above honest review. less
