review 1: Prince of Power starts where King of Darkness left off, I suggest it be read in order as you might be lost if you didn't read King of Darkness. This book is Anton (son of Wizard Master) and Tyra (half sister of Thad).Anton is hurt, nearly killed by his own father for failure. You know what they say the Enemy of My Enemy is my friend. This is Anton he is the Son of the Vampires most hated Enemy and he is trying to Save them Tyra in particular. Tyra is a kick ass heroine (which i just love) she has so much power and for some reason nobody questions why.. they think it must be fluke due to her being half human. She wants to hate Anton but she finds herself drawn to him even though she can't trust him as he was supposed to capture her. Prince of Power like King of Darkness has... more other plots with in the book which brings the secondary characters forward and I think that is what makes this story so good. There is so much going on in this story, Kidnapping, Death, Steamy Sex, Plot Twists, and OMG revelations. I hate spoiling stories and this one is so easy to spoil because I loved this book... Found i liked it better that King of Darkness and Elisabeth Staab has me wanting more of the Chronicles of Yavn
review 2: I enjoyed the first book in this series, but wasn't sure what to expect with the second. Both Anton and Tyra were introduced in the first book and got a fair amount of page time. However, in the second book, the author really fleshes them out. In the first book, Anton falls in love with Tyra from afar. He's drawn to her both by her strength and her compassion for others. He had a horrible childhood and his father is the evil head wizard (wizards are all evil and are the enemies of vamps in this world) so he doesn't think he is worthy of her but he wants to redeem himself and be a better man for her. Once he finally meets Tyra, all he wants is to help her defeat his father. What I loved about this book was that Anton was not at all the stereotypical PNR alpha hero. He's a healer, is physically weaker than Tyra, and doesn't walk around beating his chest all the time. He's also a virgin. He wants to protect Tyra, but he recognizes that she's a much better fighter than he is and he's actually turned on by her strength and doesn't mind letting her take the lead. It was so refreshing to read a romance where the woman is allowed to be strong and doesn't expect or want the man to rescue her. This book does have flaws. The world building is pretty vague and the elements in it are somewhat derivative of the BDB. In addition, I'd recommend reading the first book before you try this one there is a lot of background in the first book and not much recap. However, if you are looking for a PNR featuring a different kind of hero, this is it. I found the first book to be somewhat different also, in that the hero, Thad had recently become the King of the vampires, but he had a lot of self-doubt and was willing to admit that he didn't necessarily have all the answers, while his destined queen, Isabel, turns out to be a total party girl and club hopper who is willing to sleep with him, but isn't so sure she wants to sign on for the long haul. Both books take the usual tropes and turn them ever so slightly and I would recommend them both. less
