review 1: Set when Rome was a warlike city-state before it became a major power. A Roman woman is married to an Etruscan man as part of a peace treaty. The story follows her as she loses her Roman reserve and begins to adopt Etruscan ways, eventually to come to love her new husband. I didn't realize it was part of a series until it ended rather suddenly. I must go find the 2nd book to find out what happens to our young bride who is caught between these two powers on the verge of war.According to the bibliography it was well-researched by a quite knowledgeable person who chose to stick closely to the accepted ways the characters would have been expected to act according to archeological findings regarding the period and locale.
review 2: Caecillia drove me crazy. The
... morere were times because of her attitude that I wanted to stop reading. But I decided to give her another change (ok a few chances...she really got on my nerves at times) and I am so glad I did. The book was great. Favorite line in the book...Mastarna says to her, "all that is certain is that if you'd stayed with me you would have borne our child and you would have been loved." What a line..sums it all up. Do yourself a favor an read this book. less
