review 1: Elizabeth Camden was a new to me author and after reading With Every Breath, I will be searching out other books by her. I initially was drawn in to want to read this book by the beautiful cover but after reading the synopsis I knew I had to give it a try. It was a book that kept my interest and allowed me to finish it in a short amount of time. Kate and Trevor had an early history of competition in the four years of high school. When he beat her out of a college scholarship she vowed to hate him forever. Several years later she was asked to appear for an interview for a job in a hospital as a statistician. None other than Trevor, her nemesis, was the interviewer. He wanted her to help him in his research for a cure for tuberculosis. He had received a medical degree... more, a new last name mysteriously, and had already established himself as a well known and honored doctor in his field. There were plenty of questions Kate had for the good doctor and his past that he was unwilling to divulge. I found myself staying up late at night reading, intrigued to try and find out more about Dr. Trevor Kendall, just like Kate. Kate finds herself gradually falling for him but worries about the future and his chances of developing tuberculosis from his close contact with his patients. She has already buried one husband and doesn't want to go through that again. My take on the underlying theme is that only God knows how many days we have here on earth and He has a specific purpose for us while we live and breathe here. Having gone through breast cancer myself, I know how precious life is and how we need to appreciate each day we have and celebrate it. That is what Trevor is trying to convey to Kate. Having lived some of my early years with a hospital in my city that was totally devoted to,the care of patients with tuberculosis, I am so thankful a cure was found and that the building is now used for other purposes. Medical science has come a long long way since the early days of research for this disease. The author made the story so real that I found myself coughing a lot while reading. Now that's a great storyteller! I received this book from the publisher through Bookfun.org for my honest review, which I have given.
review 2: A difficult subject to write in a novel. Interesting characters of Trevor n Katie which developed this story from competing for a scholarship to working together with the unknown factor of finding a cure for a horrible disease. Wanting to help others was the underlining value. But some who helped had their own agendas n the suspense in the story grew. Being committed n involved with another person who may well die is a question individuals need to make. This was Katie's dilemma but giving her life n relationships over to God eventually came. Love was there. (this situation is here today as much as it was in 1890's) less
