review 1: No strong, driving plot moved this book along. Rather, a series of vignettes into the lives of the characters pulled me into this book. The characters were deeply flawed but extremely likable. Each one, from the young boy to the 98-year-old grandmother, had something happen to them in the course of the book to cause them to evaluate how they perceived themselves and the world around them. The 19-year-old daughter, especially, came into her own through the course of the book. A truly enjoyable read.
review 2: Very, very quirky book. It is the story of an ordinary family going about their day to day business. They are all eccentric in their own way but no more so than the average person. However, when you put together in a house 4 generations of strong and often ... moreclashing personalities it generates all sorts of friction, laughs and emotional outbursts. It was amusing and sad and uplifting and frustrating. Not the best read but not the worst. less
