review 1: Good book and well written, detailing the life of Katherine Parr as the last wife of Henry V111. You see so much written about the other queens, especially Ann Boleyn and Catherine of Aragon, but Catherine Parr's story has always been a bit of a mystery. However, she also was in danger of being executed because of the religious factions going on in the country and especially at court and had to tow a very careful line to keep ahead of her enemies. She deserves much admiration for how she managed the spoilt Henry who was easily influenced by the religious old guard who were watching her all the time hoping she would make that one bad mistake that would eliminate her. Most of the characters were real, which for me, made this doubly interesting and Elizabeth Fremantle has d... moreone a terrific job bringing them to life.
review 2: Poor Katherine Parr. I've always felt that if Henry had survived longer, she wouldn't have remained queen. I think this is the first historical fiction I've read that actually focuses on her and her life, and it was an interesting read. I wasn't a big fan of the author's writing style, though, and parts of the story were hard to get through. Some of the things that the author portrayed Katherine as thinking/doing seemed totally out of sync with her known character, too. Since this is a relatively new release (in the US, anyway) I don't want to provide any spoilers, so I'll leave it at that less
