review 1: I have been reading this series along with the original since the beginning, and have been waiting for this story since the introduction of Tenzin. This character is so intense but with a quality that is almost sweet sometimes that I wanted nothing more than to find out what caused her to be who she was. This was a short, compact, but intense look at the circumstances that shaped who Tenzin eventually became and it was extremely violent with abuse of all kinds. I could see it though, everything she was put through that shaped how she viewed everything in her world. This was just what I wanted and needed to really understand her.Tenzin was born in the far flung past, in a land like so many others that was hostile where lives were short and brutal. She had lost her man and c... morehild but had been taken in as a consort by a man of power and his wife. Though she did not view her life in terms of how happy she was, she was content with what she had and then all that changed one night when she was abducted by men who were more. Her life was changed forever and became more abusive both mentally and physically than she could have ever endured, if not for the changes made to her. Tenzin survived and became a warrior more fierce than many men of the time.If you have enjoyed the Elemental Mysteries or other Elemental World novels in the past then you cannot pass this one up! The 'bird girl' finally gets her story told, even if it is for a sad reason.
review 2: I read this book yesterday and finished it this morning and I was blown away with the story all together. Ms. Hunter tapped into a serious serious dark place that no one has discovered about our little beloved " Bird Girl" As Gio would call her. THis story was sooo good. And made me tear a little... No correction A lot. It does make a lot of sense why Tenzin is the way she is and how she acts. All I have to say she has a lot of wisdom and is wise and mighty. When I made it to the end reading it. I was so sad reading how Tenzin came to be but it was a bit of poetic justice a bitter sweet symphony I would say. The story is worth the read. It really is. Tenzin is my girl and she kills with a purpose. Rock on Tenzin. love you always Bird Girl. I am not going to say anymore but if you haven't read any of Elizabeth Hunter's books... Get on it right this minute and do it. You will not be disappointed I promise you. less

Tenzin needs a new story, a good story, one that is not depressing and bleak.

I guess I was just expecting more especially since Tenzin is so ancient.

This gave a good background on Tenzin, but I didn't love it.
